In 2012, Get Out & Write! Community Free Writes will be scheduled once per quarter in February, May, August, and November. Get Out & Write! events will be held at a variety of public libraries around New Castle County.
Our first free write of the new year is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2012 and will be held at the Kirkwood Highway Library in the Community Room from 2 - 4 p.m.
Based on comments and suggestions from last year’s participating writers, we have developed a new format for Get Out & Write! Community Free Writes.
Get Out & Write! gatherings will be facilitated by a featured author from the Written Remains Writers Guild. S/he will talk for 30 minutes at the begining of the program about her/his current books/stories and discuss the specific skills required for writing in his/her genre, as well as discuss the particular demands of that genre.
Each author talk will be followed by 1 hour of free writing with guided prompts led by our featured author. At the beginning of the free writing time, participants will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and talk a bit about their own writing projects.
Following the free writing time, there will be an additional 30 minutes for participants to continue to work on their writing and also a social time to chat with the featured author and with each other.
On February 25th, our featured author is Gail Husch, professor of art history at Goucher College and author of “Something Coming: Apocalyptic Expectation and Mid-Nineteenth-Century American Painting” and two novels of historical fiction set in New England in the mid to late 1800s.
